Build Your Own Wine Cellar

Build your own wine cellar; you do not need a professional contractor to do this. You can do it yourself.

Start by doing a simple sketch of the walls you plan on putting your wine racking against. Take note of any doors, windows or ceiling obstructions that may be in the room. Factor those elements in early and you will build your own wine cellar.

Now that you have the basic room size, sub-divide the room into the component sizes and rack types that you plan on using. Note the corners. The wine racking must end 11.75 inches before you reach the wall. This is true on the corresponding wall as well. You will have a 1' square dead space behind the wine racking in each corner.

However, if you do not put wine racks on the corresponding wall, then you can run your wine rack right up to the wall.

Now you begin to place on your drawing (and in your mind's eye) the Base Units that will fit in your space. The Kessick Wine Racking system is so versitile you will find that it fits in any room. It's simply a matter of doing the math and determining what pieces you will need to fill the space.

After you determine which Base Units you need to get started, you will now need to determine which Wall Units you will want to place on the Base Units. The Wall Units must be the exact size of the Base Units.

Remember, during this layout / drawing process, you must factor in the doors and windows. In addition, if you are in a basement for instance, you must factor in things like pipes running through the room, electrical outlet boxes and drop down lighting. Make sure everything fits before you place your order.

Check the height of your wine racking, 84.75", against other "things" in the room. "See" how your wine racking is coming together in a most attractive fashion.

Give thought to the visual impact your layout has on anyone entering the room. The tasting table is often the visual center piece of your room. Make sure it is well placed.

Now visualize how your new wine racks and wine collection will look when you are finished. This visualization will indeed allow you to build your own wine cellar.
